Corporal Hornburg Bridge Dedication

On September 24, 2025, the City of Calgary officially named two bridges over the Bow River in memory of Corporal (Cpl) Nathan Hornburg.

Nathan Hornburg was a member of the King's Own Calgary Regiment remembered for his bravery, compassion, and service. The Corporal Nathan Hornburg Memorial Bridge is located along Stoney Trail Northwest just south of the Nose Hill Drive NW ramps.
Eighteen years earlier, on September 24, 2007, while serving on a NATO mission in Afghanistan, Cpl Hornburg was killed while trying to assist another soldier in need, replacing the tracks on a disabled Leopard tank in the Panjwai District, Kandahar. Cpl Hornburg, who joined the King's Own Calgary Regiment in 2001, became the 71st Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan.
It was fitting that these bridges were dedicated on the anniversary of his death, a day his family lovingly calls “Nathan Day”.
