King's Own Exercise Pictures from Suffield and
Wainwright from 1971
.
Lieutenant
(Retired) Chamney recently uncovered these pictures of the King's
Own on Exercise in Suffield, Alberta and Wainwright, Alberta from
1971. For those of you who are not familiar with the open
prairies, the pictures with trees are from Wainwright. What
was old is new again! After being a Tank Regiment during WWII,
the King's Own converted to Reconnaissance. After switching
back to Direct Fire, we have converted back to Reconnaissance!
Having said that, a number of our soldiers continue to be deployed
with Leopard tank squadrons serving overseas.

Royal Visit 2005
.
As part of her visit
to Alberta, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to Calgary to visit
'her' units. HRH is the Commander in Chief of the King's Own Calgary
Regiment, and when she visits Alberta, members of the unit generally
have a chance to visit with the monarch. She attended a meet and
greet at the Museum of the Regiments, and sat for a photo with the
serving Officers and Senior Non-commissioned Members of the
Regiment. The unit participated in street lining to pay respects to
the Queen as she travelled to the Saddledome for a public event.
